European Poker Camp, 28 April 2006

I started playing poker full time in May 2004 when Betfair Poker was launched. Two years later my poker career has reached a new milestone - the European Poker camp has invited me to speak and train at this event.

The concept of camps is very popular in the USA where you can find a “meet your favourite soap opera star camp” or a “how to live healthy and lose weight camp”. Therefore a poker camp seems like a natural progression in the land that hosts the World Series of Poker. The first three Poker Camps hosted by Howard Lederer and Annie Duke were extremely popular events which were completely sold out. Now they are expanding and entering the European market, the first event will be held in Baden, Austria from 11th-14th May. To reflect this shift in location they have invited two European players, Marcel Luske and myself, and needless to say I am extremely excited to be part of it.

Part of the camp’s programme includes 90 minute seminars from each of the pros. My seminar will mainly focus on the specific strategies for online play; I will also lead the visitors step by step and level by level through a typical online Sixpak STT. Other key topics which will be covered by both my colleagues and I will include:

• Evaluation of Starting Hands
• Reading of Players' Tells
• How to approach Large Tournaments like the WSOP
• Different Play with a Small Table Versus a Full Table
• Alternative Playing Techniques based on Chip Stacks
• How to view the Final Table Play as different from the Rest of a Tournament

Visitors of the camp will also receive complimentary copies of all of Howard`s, Annie`s and Marcel`s educational poker DVDs. In addition they will participate in two MTTs with over $25,000 in prize money and play various STTs with the pros. In all of the STTs, the pros will turn over his or her cards at the end of the hand and explain why they played the hand the way they did. The Pros will even comment on the participants play during the STTs and answer any questions the participant has about poker regardless of how elementary or advanced the question. The key point is, whether the visitors are beginners, intermediates or advanced players we will make sure that they improve their game to the next level.

Seats for the camp are selling well, mainly due to support from online poker rooms. Betfair Poker is currently running very attractive satellites and sub-satellites to this event, that you should have a look at. See you at the tables,
